What happens in a winter and snow book

A winter book captures a snow day through your child’s eyes: the first flakes at the window, the snowman, the sledding hill, the snowball fight and the hot cocoa at the end. It is not tied to any holiday, so it can be given anytime from December to March, and it works well for children who are about to see snow for the first time. Add the neighbors, the dog and the hill you always sled on.

How a book like this might begin

Isla pressed her nose against the window. Snow! Real snow, falling so thick she could barely see the fence. School was closed, the world was white, and there was not a single footprint in the garden yet. She pulled on her red hat, her mittens and her boots, and ran outside to make the very first snowman of the year.

Her snowman had a carrot nose, two button eyes and Dad’s old scarf. Then her friends from next door came running with sleds, and everyone raced to the top of the big hill. Isla sat at the front, held on tight and shouted, “Ready, set, GO!”

An example. Every book is written fresh for your child, so yours will be its own story.

Details that make it theirs

  • Your real sledding hill or park
  • Who joins the snowball fight
  • The snowman’s name and outfit
  • Their favorite winter treat

When families give it

Winter books are given as a cozy gift between December and February, for a winter birthday, for a child in a warm place who has never seen snow, or before a ski trip. Siblings and neighborhood friends can all join the snowball fight.

Printed books ship in about 8–15 business days, so order about three weeks ahead. You can read it on screen the moment it is made.
