Privacy Policy

Inkling ("we", "us") helps you create a personalized children's storybook. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your choices. By using inklingbook.com you agree to it.
Your photos — the short version
- Photos you upload are used solely to generate your book's illustrations.
- We do not use your photos to train any AI model, and they are not used for advertising.
- We retain uploaded photos only as long as needed to create and let you re-edit your book, and automatically delete them within 90 days of your last activity on that book (sooner on request). You can delete your photos and books at any time from your account, or by emailing us.
- You must have the right and any necessary consent to upload each photo, including photos of children (you confirm you are the parent/guardian or have permission).
What we collect
- Account info — your email (and name if you provide it).
- Content you create — the photos, ideas, text, and books you make.
- Recipient/shipping details — for printed orders (name, address).
- Payment info — handled by Stripe; we store only a token and the card's brand/last-4, never the full number.
- Usage data — basic, privacy-respecting analytics (pages viewed, actions taken, errors) via our own self-hosted analytics, to improve the product.
How we use it
To create and deliver your books, process payments and print orders, send you transactional and (if you opt in) marketing email, provide support, prevent abuse, and improve the service.
Who we share it with
We share the limited data needed to run the service with vetted providers, acting as our processors: OpenRouter and its underlying AI model providers (to generate your story and illustrations), Lulu (to print and drop-ship your book — they receive the recipient's name, shipping address, and the final book file), Stripe (to process payments — we never see your full card number), Amazon Web Services (SES) (to send email), and our own self-hosted analytics. We do not sell your personal information.
Children's data
Inkling is intended for use by adults (18+) purchasing for a child. The book's subject may be a child, but we do not knowingly create accounts for, or collect data directly from, children under 13. As the adult account-holder you are responsible for providing any consent required for a child's photo or details, and for reviewing generated content before sharing it. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights & choices
You can access, correct, export, or delete your data, and opt out of marketing email, from your account or by emailing hello@inklingbook.com. Depending on where you live (e.g. the EU/UK under GDPR, or California under the CCPA) you may have additional rights; we honor them. International data transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
Security & retention
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data and keep it only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law.
Cookies & analytics
See our Cookie Policy. We use only essential cookies and our own privacy-respecting analytics.
