How much does a personalized children’s book cost in 2026?
Guides · By Inkling · Updated
At Inkling, a personalized picture book costs $45 as a hardcover and about $20 as a printed softcover booklet, with standard US shipping included. Making your first book and reading every page on screen is free, so you only pay when you decide to print it, and the clean eBook comes with the hardcover.
Our prices by format and shipping speed
These are the totals our checkout quoted on November 3, 2026 for a 24-page book sent to a US address in Kansas. The price you pay is the whole price: book, printing and shipping.
| Format | Standard | Expedited | Express |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hardcover, 8.5 × 8.5 in | $45.00 | $46.80 | $64.80 |
| Softcover booklet, 8.5 × 8.5 in | $20.14 | $38.20 | $56.20 |
| eBook only | $2.82, or included with the hardcover | ||
Standard post takes about one to two weeks after printing, Expedited about 3 to 5 business days and Express about 1 to 3. Our holiday order-by dates turn those into the last day to order for Christmas.
What changes the price
- Page count. The price covers up to 24 pages. Each page past 24 adds $0.75, so a 30-page hardcover is $49.50.
- Shipping speed. Faster shipping raises what the printer charges us, and the price follows it, so the gap between Standard and Express is bigger for the light booklet than for the hardcover.
- Where it goes. Shipping is priced to the address you type, so a far-off or non-US address can cost more. You see the exact total before you pay.
- More copies. Each extra copy of the same book costs the same as the first.
What our own books would cost
We priced every book in our library today: 18 books, from 8 to 30 pages. Seventeen of them print at the base price, $45 for a hardcover and about $20 for a booklet with standard shipping. One 30-page book is the exception, at about $49.50 in hardcover and about $25 as a booklet. In practice most families pay the headline price, because a typical story fills 24 pages or fewer.
Is there a cheaper way?
- Read your first book on screen for free. Every finished page can be read and shared before you buy anything.
- Buy the eBook alone for $2.82 and print it later.
- Give it as a gift: a gift that covers one printed hardcover is $49.75, and the person you give it to picks the format. A free printable gift certificate goes in the card.
How we got these numbers
We asked our own checkout for a live quote at each speed for a 24-page hardcover and booklet on November 3, 2026, the same quote a customer sees before paying. Our printer did not offer the Ground option to that address for these books, so it is left out. The library figures apply our pricing rule (base price up to 24 pages, $0.75 for each page after) to the page count of each book. Prices can change with printer and postage costs; the checkout always shows today’s figure.
