What happens in a farm book

A farm book makes your child the farmer for a day: up with the rooster, feeding the chickens, driving the tractor and finding the piglet that always escapes. It is a favorite for toddlers and preschoolers who love animal sounds, and a sweet keepsake after a visit to a real farm or a weekend with grandparents in the country. The animals can have names you choose, so the family dog or a favorite stuffed cow can join in.

How a book like this might begin

Cock-a-doodle-doo! Lucy was out of bed before the rooster had finished. She pulled on her rain boots, grabbed the egg basket and ran across the yard. The chickens clucked hello, the pig snorted hello, and the cow said a very long “mooooo.” But somebody was missing. The little pink piglet had escaped again.

Lucy looked in the barn, behind the haystack and under the tractor. She followed the muddy hoofprints past the duck pond, through the vegetable patch and right up to the farmhouse door, which was open just a crack. From inside came a very small, very happy snort.

An example. Every book is written fresh for your child, so yours will be its own story.

Details that make it theirs

  • Their favorite farm animals, with names if they have them
  • A real farm or grandparents’ place the story can be set on
  • The color of their tractor
  • Who helps on the farm

When families give it

Farm books are a common first-birthday or second-birthday gift, a souvenir of a visit to a farm or petting zoo, or a present from grandparents who live in the country. Short farm books with lots of animal sounds are also good for reading aloud to toddlers who are just learning to talk.

Printed books ship in about 8–15 business days, so order about three weeks ahead. You can read it on screen the moment it is made.

Questions

Is it good for toddlers?

Yes. Ask for a shorter book with simple words and repeated animal sounds, and the story is written for that age.

Can our real farm or pets be in it?

Yes. Add photos of your animals as characters and they are drawn into the story alongside your child.

Do I need a photo?

No. A name is enough to start. A photo helps the illustrations look like your child.

Yes. You read every page before you order and can change any page you like.

What does it cost?

Free to make and preview. A hardcover is $45 with the eBook included, and a printed booklet about $21, US shipping included, for a standard 24-page book.
