What happens in a dragon book
In Inkling’s dragon books the dragon is a friend, never a monster: your child hatches it, names it, learns to ride it, or helps a shy dragon find its fire. Stories can be set in castles, mountains or your own backyard. They suit brave three-to-eight-year-olds and children who are nervous about something new, because the dragon is usually the one who needs courage, and your child shows it how.
How a book like this might begin
The egg had been on Noah’s windowsill for three whole weeks, and nothing had happened. Then, one morning, it cracked. Out tumbled a small green dragon with enormous feet and a sneeze that set the curtains on fire. “Oh no,” said Noah, reaching for a cup of water. The dragon hiccupped. This was going to be a very interesting day.
By lunchtime the dragon had eaten six pancakes, hidden under the bed and learned its new name: Sprout. By teatime Noah had discovered that dragons cannot fly until somebody believes in them very, very much. So they climbed to the top of the hill to practice.
An example. Every book is written fresh for your child, so yours will be its own story.
Details that make it theirs
- The dragon’s name and color
- Whether the dragon is a baby or a giant
- What your child teaches the dragon, or learns from it
- Where they fly together
When families give it
Dragon books are often given for birthdays, for a dragon or knight themed party, or to a child facing something new, like a first day at school or a move, since the dragon’s courage becomes theirs. They also make good read-aloud books for siblings, who can each have a dragon of their own.
Printed books ship in about 8–15 business days, so order about three weeks ahead. You can read it on screen the moment it is made.

Questions
Will it be scary?
No. Dragons in these books are friendly and the stories are written to be gentle for young children. Tell us if your child likes a little more adventure.
Can there be a knight too?
